Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood situated in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think it's a separate island off the coast of Montreal but in fact it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island. But this is not true. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer but an increase in her height meant she was able to outgrow her dance partners. In an article from The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. When I grew out of male companions, I began to stop. Former dancers often turn into acting which is what Brugel did. The drama instructor at her high school encouraged her in the direction she wanted to go in. The teacher was the one who recommended her to audition for the role of Anne in their annual school production. After trying out her options, she was eventually the lead on stage in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the last 20 years her career has seen her appear in over 60 movies and TV productions. Her most notable role was as Rita (shown beneath) in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor for the season 1 of the show and was rarely seen.
